Farewell
(2024)
Collage & installation— glass with upcycled frame, vintage magazine photos, gesso, fabric, vintage matchbooks, vintage drinking glass, vintage ashtray
34.5”x25”
“to be honest, i cannot accept your apology”
planning. plotting. strategizing. the in-between place / a midpoint
assembling. map-making separation from the body
an unwelcome entity intervened bound wrestling
submission flailing a dance in the midst i arrange and rearrange
/ planning / plotting / preparing / packing / binding / succumbing light flotation—reprieve—submerged—rerouting haste and we sit and we sit and we sit
luminous shredding interrupting pasts
engulfed
mending myself in my own image
dealing with misogyny as a black, queer woman in the south is exhausting
This piece is a reclaiming: reminding myself of the agency I can find, grab a hold of; leaving behind archaic narratives; running toward the freedom and liberation belonging to us.
